evolution I would like, one day, to dye my hair blue. Not blue like the sky but blue like the deep parts of the ocean. I would like to live one day in the skin of another, to experience someone else's life. I would like to run naked through untouched forests, to swim in forest pools in only my skin. I would like to see the stars from the top of a mountain, spread out before me like an infinite black canvas splattered with diamonds of white. I would like one day to live as man, to see how my skin fits in the embodiment of masculinity. I would like to touch my feet to soil burnt by riot fires, I would like to watch the world around me burn to the ground as it erupts in anarchy. I would like to tattoo every inch of my skin with the stories I have heard. I would like to see the world through the eyes of a person of colour, to better understand the way the world looks when it isn't whitewashed by my privilege. I would like to taste the water of a river untainted by chemicals. I would like to explore the space of a landfill not saturated with things that could be re-used. I would like to see a world where basic needs like water, shelter and clothing are free for all; where everyone has equal access to equal education; where doors are opened equally for all instead of just for those who can afford to buy the key. I would like to see parents encouraging a little boy who wears heels and lipstick just as often as parents who encourage a little girl who wears boy's clothes and plays football. I would like to all children in loving arms, whether those arms are gay, straight, trans, gender variant, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, religious, non-religious, rich or poor. I would like to open my eyes one morning and wake up to see people working together instead of against each other. I would like to see animals grazing outside my window instead of on styrofoam trays piled up in grocery store garbage bins. I would like to see a woman in a CEO position without people cracking jokes around the office about what a "bitch" or a "maneater" she is or about the size of her tits or if she secretly has a dick. I would like to see the abolition of gender testing in sports and inclusive gender classifications on all census forms that represent a spectrum of gender rather than a binary. I would like to watch minds open like flowers to accept clarity like sunshine, information like rain. |
